Mobile Dog Gym FAQs | Central New Jersey | Zoomies2Go
General Questions About Mobile Dog Gyms
What is Zoomies2Go
Zoomies 2 Go is a mobile dog gym serving Central New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. We bring a climate-controlled fitness van right to your driveway and give your dog a structured workout on a canine treadmill, called a slatmill— no car ride, no dog park chaos, no waiting for good weather.
What's a slatmill, and how is it different from a regular treadmill?
A slatmill is a treadmill made specifically for dogs, with no motor. Your dog’s own movement powers the belt, which means your dog is always in control — they set the pace, and they can slow down or stop whenever they want. There’s no risk of the belt “running away” from them the way a motorized treadmill can.
Is my dog forced to run?
Never. We use praise, toys, and treats to encourage your dog, but participation is always their choice. If a dog is hesitant, we slow things down and build comfort at their pace rather than pushing them onto the mill.
Why did you start Zoomies2Go?
Zoomies 2 Go grew out of life with my own dog, Cindy Loo — a rescue off the streets of Trenton who needs a lot of exercise but, between her medical issues and her black coat, she doesn’t do well running around outside in NJ’s heat and humidity. Being a short fur bully breed, she’s not fond of the cold either. Looking for a better way to keep her fit and mentally stimulated led me to the mobile dog gym concept. and to building Zoomies 2 Go so other local dogs could get the same benefit.
Is treadmill exercise safe for my dog?
Yes, when it’s done properly. a slatmill is a non-motorized, dog- friendly surface designed for the canine gait. Sessions are tailored to your dog’s size, age, and fitness level. Your dog is supervised the entire time, and we start with gradual introductions so they’re comfortable and confident. If your dog has a medical condition or injury, we recommend checking with your vet first.
What are the benefits of a mobile dog gym session?
Regular sessions help burn energy, support healthy weight, build strength and endurance, and can reduce restlessness and destructive behavior at home. Because we come to you, there’s no stress of packing up the car, other dogs to react to, no extreme weather issues, no unexpected environmental issues to stress out your dog.
Zoomies2Go Sessions: What to Expect from a Mobile Dog Gym Session
How long is a session?
Actual sessions run 30minutes. We schedule them for an hour to allow time for cleaning and travel between sessions. Each session is tailored to your dog’s age and fitness level — a puppy or senior dog’s session looks different from a high-drive adult’s session.
Do I need to be home during the session?
For your dog’s first session, yes — we want to meet your dog, get them comfortable with the van and the equipment, and make sure you’re comfortable with us too. After that first visit, if your dog is settled in with us, we’re happy to run sessions while you’re at work or out running errands. It’s entirely your call
What happens during a visit?
We pull up, leash your dog from the door to the van, and get them settled in with a harness if not wearing their own, before attaching them to the slatmill. Your dog’s coach stays with them the entire session, encouraging them to run faster, or slowing the pace depending on the dog’s needs. We take water/rest breaks as needed. When we’re done, your dog gets leashed back to you (or back inside) and we let you know how the session went.
What do I need to provide?
Just your dog! If you have a harness that allows for full mobility please have your dog wear it during our sessions. Personal harnesses will fit better than our harness. Other than that, we bring everything else: the slatmill, harness, water, and everything else needed for a safe session. If your dog has a favorite toy that helps motivate them, feel free to have it handy, but it’s not required.
How often should my dog complete a Zoomies workout?
It depends on your dog’s age, energy level, and goals. We’ll recommend a schedule after your first session, — most dogs do great with a weekly visit, others benefit from more frequent sessions. The introductory package of 4 runs completed one per week is a great starting place to see how your dog responds to the program. Adjustments in frequency can be made at any time deemed beneficial.
What happens if it's raining, freezing, or 95 degrees out?
None of it matters to us. The van is fully climate-controlled, so your dog gets a comfortable environment to workout no matter what’s happening outside. In the summer we keep the van around 75 degrees and in the winter we keep it around 50 degrees
Dog Suitability, Health & Behavior
Is there a minimum or maximum age for sessions?
There’s no strict cutoff but a puppy’s growth plates in their bones should be closed and fused before they start an activity like this. Please confirm with your veterinarian if you are not sure. Sessions with younger dogs focus more on confidence-building and light movement rather than intense running, and senior dog sessions are paced to be gentle and appropriately slower with more rest periods. We tailor every session to the dog in front of us.
Are any breeds or sizes not able to use the slatmill?
We work with dogs of all breeds and sizes, adjusting focus and intensity to fit each dog individually.
My dog has a health condition, is overweight, or is a senior - can they still do this?
In many cases, yes — please let us know about any health conditions or physical limitations on the intake form. We’re not veterinarians, so for dogs with existing health concerns we’ll ask that you check with your vet before starting, and we’ll work within whatever guidance they give.
My dog is reactive, anxious, or easily overwhelmed at the dog park — would this work for them?
This is actually where a lot of these types of dogs thrive. The van is an enclosed, low-distraction space — no other dogs, no passing triggers — so many anxious or reactive dogs do better here than in other settings. We have a variety of muzzle sizes available if you are afraid your dog may bite.
What if my dog doesn't take to the slatmill right away?
Totally normal. Most dogs pick it up within their first session or two with some encouragement; a few need a little longer. We never rush a dog onto the mill before they’re ready.
Can you run more than one of my dogs, or dogs from two different households, together?
We can run two dogs at a time from the same household. For safety reasons, dogs from different households are run in separate sessions rather than together.
Does my dog need to be vaccinated?
Yes — we ask for proof of core vaccinations before your dog’s first session. This reduces the risk to all the dogs that enter the van.
Safety: How We Protect Your Dog in Our Mobile Dog Gym
Is the slatmill treadmill safe for dogs? Could my dog get hurt?
Safety is built into the equipment and the process: the slatmill is designed for your dog’s natural gait. It is non-motorized, so your dog controls the pace and can stop at any time. They’re secured with a proper harness and safety strap while on the mill; The tread surface is a safe for paws, comfortable and a steady surface to run on. The coach stays right there for the entire session, monitoring your dog for comfort and fatigue.
What is the inside of the van like?
It’s a fully insulated climate-controlled space with heat in winter, air conditioning in the summer, and fresh air ventilation all year round. The walls and ceiling are covered with a washable surface, and the flooring is a slip proof washable surface. We clean between each session and do deep cleaning at least once a week, all with pet friendly environmentally safe cleaners. We have music and lighting to provide a calm, comfortable, distraction-free environment for your dog to work out in.
Do I need to talk to my vet before starting?
We recommend it, especially for puppies, senior dogs, and dogs with joint, heart, or breathing conditions or past injuries. We ask you to share any health concerns with us on the intake form so we can tailor the workout to your dog’s individual needs.
What happens if my dog doesn't like the treadmill?
That’s okay. We never force a dog onto the equipment. Many dogs need a few visits to feel confident, so we go at your dog’s pace and use positive reinforcement. If it isn’t a good fit, we will tell you honestly.
What are your qualifications and are you insured?
I am Pet First Aid & CPR certified through MyCPR Now, so I am prepared to respond if your dog has an emergency during a session. Zoomies 2 Go is also fully insured with liability coverage. Beyond the certification, I’ve spent over eight years caring for rescue dogs with severe allergies, reactivity, and ongoing medical needs. That is what led me to start Zoomies 2 Go. Every session is one-on-one in our climate-controlled van, and I adjust each workout to your dog’s age, health, and limits. If your dog has medical conditions, tell me when you book, and we can make a plan together.
Scheduling, Pricing, Policies and Service Area
How do I book a session?
You can book directly through this website on the Booking page. If you are not sure what options would be best for your dog, feel free to call 856-215-4339.
Can I try a session before committing to a package?
Yes, you can schedule one individual session to see if your dog takes to the activity right away.
